It is important you understand how to control what happens with the Conditional Formatting. Although logically set up, there are some important aspects to understand when trying to control the heat maps, icons and data bars.

When working with the more fancy conditional formatting, Excel does some guessing.

So below you will notice on the project completion, the

  • Project B which is 39.1% complete is shown as a empty pie whereas
  • Project A of 95.1% is considered complete.

Similarly with the traffic robots. Excel has ‘guessed’ that the

  • 88% and 90% should be green,
  • 46% should be yellow and
  • 7% red.

Excel only guesses because we used the wizard to generate these icon sets. You can control every aspect.
