This lesson covers a popular means of visualising data using heat maps. Typically a colour gets darker or lighter depending on the underlying numbers.

Below a matrix of information showing the repayments on a mortgage bond given different interest rates and repayment terms. Which is best and which is worst? A matrix is difficult for a human to look at.

As shown below, it becomes easy when you use the Color Scales to generate a heat map. Notice how easy it is to now see where the big and small numbers are and what the trends are.
