Pull the day, month or year out of the date.

When you understand how dates work in Excel, you will see that you need special functions to pull the day, month and year out of a valid date.

If Excel recognises a cell as a date cell (make sure you know how to check this) then you cannot make use of LEFT, RIGHT and MID to pull out the day, month or year. Excel has special functions to do just this.

As shown below, in row 6 we have some birthdays and we want to split them into day (row 8), month (row 9) and year (row 10).
