It is possible and often preferable to change the format of cells to make it extremely clear what is expected of the user. For example, if I want the user to enter a number in km’s, when they type the number I want them to see their number with ‘kms’ behind it. Importantly though this must not affect the use of that number (similar to the way formatting as a currency shows the $ but treats it as a number).
